Thonet S 32 VL lounge chair

The Thonet S 32 Lounge Chair is a design by the German designer Marcel Breuer. The lounge chair is derived from the iconic S 32 Chair, which was one of the first 'Freischwinger models' in furniture history, designed in 1927. The design was a response to the steel tube construction by Mart Stam, which was completely innovative in the 1920s. Starting from 1925, Mart Stam experimented with gas pipeline tubes, connecting them with flanges. From this, he developed the principle of the free-swinging chair that no longer stands on four legs: an important construction principle in modern furniture history. Initially, the springing effect was not so important for Stam. He focused more on the sleek design that fit perfectly into the modern buildings of that time. The S 32 is also a classic that emerged from the Bauhaus period and still serves as an icon in modern interiors today.
