CLASSICON Corker No.1 marble side table

The silhouette of a champagne cork served as inspiration for Herzog & de Meuron in designing the Corker, a piece of furniture that can be used as a stool or side table. The addition of a marble version to the popular product family emphasizes the monolithic character of the design even more: the object made of colored natural stone appears like a sculpture in the space. "One could almost understand the Corker as a Pop Art object because it emerged directly and without significant plastic deformation by enlarging an existing object from our everyday culture," says Jacques Herzog. Not only aesthetically, but also haptically, the furniture made of polished or matte marble is highly appealing: the tactile properties of natural stone invite touch – the cool smooth surface contrasts with the warm velvety cork of the original designs.
